Lately, I feel like I’ve been talking a lot about this “linen project,” but even more, I’ve been thinking about it. Especially how to organise each step, from sowing flax to weaving, so that within a year we can produce at least a few meters of handwoven linen fabric.
Over the past month, I’ve been searching for flax seeds with the greatest potential to produce long and strong fibers. At the same time, I’ve been postponing the sowing date for the past three weeks, as the air temperatures have been low and the soil has not yet warmed up enough.
We will sow the flax on Sunday, April 19th, at 1 PM in Črnomelj.
If you would like to actively participate in the sowing, please send me an e-mail on: ivicicvita@gmail.com. I expect that around 20 people will be enough for this phase. I will send all additional information and instructions to those who are interested via email.
Sowing is just the beginning of many processes required to produce linen fabric. It will be followed by harvesting the flax, likely in the second half of July or early August, depending on when the flax is ready. This will be followed by seed separation, fiber extraction, hand spinning, and weaving. The second half of summer and the autumn will be most active within the project.
I will keep you updated about workshops and many opportunities to participate as the project develops.
May this year's harvest be good and the weather kind for growing flax, and we will make sure that, by the end of the year, we will have at least a few meters of linen in our hands.

Zdi se mi, da veliko govorim o »projektu z lanom«, še več pa o njem razmišljam. Predvsem o tem, kako organizirati vsak korak, od sejanja lana do tkanja z ročno predeno laneno prejo.
V zadnjem mesecu sem se ukvarjala z iskanjem lanenih semen, ki imajo največ potenciala za pridelavo dolgih in močnih vlaken. Hkrati pa že tri tedne prestavljam datum sejanja.
Lan bomo sejali v nedeljo, 19. aprila, ob 13. uri v Črnomlju.
Vsi, ki bi radi aktivno sodelovali pri sejanju, mi prosim pišite na email: ivicicvita@gmail.com. Za izvedbo te faze predvidevam, da bo zadostovalo približno 20 oseb. Vse dodatne informacije in navodila bom zainteresiranim poslala po e-pošti.
Sejanje je šele začetek številnih postopkov, potrebnih za izdelavo lanenega platna. Sledilo bo pukanje lana (puljenje lanenih biljk iz zemlje), predvidoma v drugi polovici julija oziroma v začetku avgusta, odvisno kdaj bo lan dozorel. Nato pridejo na vrsto ločevanje semen, pridobivanje vlaken, ročno predenje in tkanje. Druga polovica poletja in jesen bosta najbolj zaznamovani z aktivnostmi v okviru projekta.
O delavnicah in številnih priložnostih za sodelovanje vas bom sproti obveščala.
Naj bo letina dobra in vreme naklonjeno pridelavi lana, da bomo do konca leta stkali vsaj nekaj metrov domačega lanenega platna, pa bomo poskrbeli mi.
